Superman: Man of Action!

If a picture says a thousand words, only one came to mind when I saw the newly released pic of Henry Cavill from Superman: The Man of Steel: action.

Yes, the word that was used so infrequently to describe Bryan Singer’s 2006 effort, Superman Returns. In fact, I believe the new picture is a promise to potential movie-goers that they are in store for some serious action when Superman does indeed return to the big screen to do battle with General Zod (Michael Shannon) and Faora (Antje Trau).

Today Warner Bros has made my day by debuting the very first picture of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.

Laurence Fishburne Cast As Perry White

Today it was announced that Matrix star Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Clark Kent's boss Perry White, editor-in-chief at the newspaper, The Daily Planet.

So yeah, take that Marvel.

Superman: The Man of Steel already stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and will be directed by Zack Snyder.

The new film is set for release on June 14, 2013.

Superman Returns: Return to Krypton Deleted Scene

Superman Returns was originally going to open with Kal-EL/Clark Kent finding the remains of his home planet. But due to the length of the film, the powers that be decided to cut it.

Which is a shame because its beautiful...and the moment Kal-EL sees his family crest is just AWESOME.

SDCC '11: Grant Morrison Panel

DC featured a question and answer session with Grant Morrison today which was more entertaining than I could have ever imagined. Morrison was charming and funny, but always thoughtful and serious about his approach to his writing. What struck me most was that, for a guy who is notorious for his layered and sometimes complex storytelling, he has very straightforward ideas about the characters he writes.

The writer discussed a number of projects that he is working on, but most questions centered around DC Comics’ two most famous heroes: Superman and Batman.

Superman: Man of Steel Moved to Summer 2013

Today Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Zack Snyder's Superman film has now been pushed back from December 2012 to June 14, 2013.

 

This could mean a few things, one that the WB feels strong enough about the film to place it with the normal Blockbusters of the Summer, or that despite a solid winter 2012 release, it still has a lot to compete with.

 

With such films as The Hobbit and the next James Bond film...which all follow films like The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Avengers.

 

However, looking at the summer of 2013, it will be fun to spend it with Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and now Superman: The Man of Steel.

 

So really, it just makes for a whole better experience.

Hey! His Spit Curl's Gone! And the Changes Don't End There for Superman.

Superman is going spit curl-less this September.



There’s been a lot of talk about the changes in store for Superman once DC relaunches its entire superhero line of comic books come September. But I just realized something: Big Blue’s spit curl is gone!

This makes me kind of happy. I’m racking my brain trying to think of the last time a spit curl on a man was in fashion. Maybe on a baby, but not on a man. And definitely not a Superman.

Christopher Meloni may joinThe Man of Steel

Well, things seem to moving along nicely for the new Superman film.

The movie is set to start shooting in August and every day there is more casting news.

Today 'Law and Order' actor Christopher Meloni is said to be up for yet to be identified role.

So what do we think? Lex Luthor, Dan Turpin, Mister Mxyzptlk?

My money is on Perry White.

Today is a big day for Superman casting news.

Variety is reporting that actor Russell Crowe is in final negotiations to play Superman's father Jor-EL.

The strange part in of all of this, is that both Crowe and Connie Nielsen were in Gladiator.

Does this mean Joaquin Phoenix is up for Jimmy Olsen?

The good people at Comicbookmovie.com shared this bit of casting news,

That actress Connie Nielsen has being offered the role of Superman's birth mother Lara. Nothing has been confirmed yet but it seems likely.

DC BEGINS: Superman

If DC Comics is going to start new or fresh it all has to begin with Superman.

There is a lot of ways to go and telling Superman’s origin is something fans love to read.

However there have been so many published over the last few years I really don’t think it needs to be retold again in great detail.

I think the first few pages of All Star Superman is really all any reader needs.

Superman is the perfect character, (no really he is) he’s the kind of superhero that allows for stories in either epic space operas settings or simple stories that take place in the streets of Metropolis.

He can be in the future with the Legion of Superheroes or helping his Pa out in the fields on his family’s farm.

But the Man of Steel has a lot of problems. Often, reading his stories it feels like he’s trapped in a BOX with no way out.

Here are some ideas that may allow Superman to fly free to tell some great stories.

Give Superman some mystery to him. Sure the readers know Superman’s history in and out but that doesn’t mean Superman has to or the WHOLE world for that matter.

Superman Beyond

Superman fans....get ready for SUPERMAN BEYOND.

Per DC Comics,

Spinning out of the fan favorite BATMAN BEYOND series come the adventures of The Man of Tomorrow in the DC Universe of the future! An aging Kal-El is called back into action to stop a villain more powerful than he’s ever faced - all while his own super powers are starting to fade.
SUPERMAN BEYOND #0 will be written by Tom DeFalco and illustrated by Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema

This super one-shot will be hitting shelves in August.

Superman The Number One Superhero....per IGN

IGN has listed the top 100 Superheroes and the world's first Superhero is number one.

Batman came in at number two with Spider-Man coming in at number three.

IGN had this to say about the Man of Steel,

"Superman is a hero that reflects the potential in all of us for greatness; a beacon of light in times that are grim and a glimmer of hope for the hopeless. He’s an archetype for us to project upon; whether you consider him a messiah or just a Big Blue Boyscout, Superman’s impact on the genre and pop culture is undeniable.

Michael Shannon Cast as General Zod

So I guess this means we’re going to get some fisticuffs in this one.

Warner Bros. announced that Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) has been cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. Movie audiences will recall that Zod was introduced in the original 1978 Superman film and brought a whole heap of trouble for the Man of Steel in Superman II.

Snyder said the following in the official announcement from Warner Bros.: “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Terrence Stamp memorably played the villain in the original, in which he was aided by Phantom Zone escapees Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran). Now Zod is usually not alone when he makes an appearance, so this news begs the question: will Superman face off against more Kryptonian criminals? Only time will tell.

Snyder’s Superman reboot is scheduled for release during the 2012 holiday season.

William Shatner is THE TOY MAN in new Superman film

It was announced today that the Shat has been cast as the villain (one of maybe) in the new Zack Snyder Superman film.

Hoping to catch the same buzz that the Joker had in the last Batman film Snyder had this to say about casting 80 year old Bill Shatner....

Amy Adams is Lois Lane in Superman Reboot

Hero Complex is reporting today that we have a new Lois Lane for our Superman reboot:

Amy Adams!

As a longtime fan of Adams I could not be more happy with this casting! Adams is one of the most charming actresses working today and finds that perfect chemistry with her leading men. You have to believe that the Man of Steel is going to fall in love with Lois Lane, and Adams has an incredibly personable quality that will make their relationship relatable and believable.

We’ve been hearing a lot from Snyder this week, during his Sucker Punch interviews, about the more realistic tone of his 2012 Superman film. He told Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex, “It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes.  That applies to Lois as well.”
