Marvel Comics Brings Us 'Avengers Vs Annihilators'

The power houses of the cosmos are coming to Earth and they are looking to pick a fight with the Avengers.

Per Marvel Comics,

"Annihilators: Earthfall #1 will launch a four issue mini-series this September that sees Gladiator, Quasar, Ronan, Ikon and Beta-Ray Bill coming to Earth to square up against the Avengers."

The story is co-written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.

Abnett told Marvel.com

"A desperate and vital mission brings the Annihilators to Earth, and what generates the conflict with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is basically the clash of jurisdiction, and the incompatible interests of both teams; what’s good for Earth might not be good for the Galaxy—and vice versa!”

The Most Dangerous Man Alive Is The Black Panther

Come this September fans will found out why the Point One book for the Black Panther will be titled The Most Dangerous Man Alive, which previously was labeled The Man Without Fear

Per Marvel Comics, the former king of Wakanda is trying to "figure out why a mysterious killer has set their sites on people the Panther has saved since his arrival in New York."

The issue is brought to you by writer David Liss with artist Jefte Palo. Black Panther 523.1 hits shelves in September.

Marvel Comics Rumored to Drop Prices to $2.99

Who would have thought we’d be using the phrase “During these difficult economic times” for three years straight?

But during these difficult economic times, the word on the web is that Marvel may be following DC’s lead and bringing their comic book prices down a buck to $2.99 (the price of almost all of their good titles is $3.99).

Bleeding Cool is reporting through a number of sources that Marvel will begin selling their books at the lower price-point and also reduce the number of pages from 22 to 20—also in the same manner as the distinguished competition. According to the article some of the books may contain as many as 24 pages.

Marvel Comic Book Prices: Just a Little Lower Please

Earlier this month at the New York Comic-con, DC Comics announced that there would be an across the board price-point change to $2.99 (down from $3.99). There would be a two page story reduction and a loss of the follow-up stories. I thought that it was a bummer to lose two pages, but really didn’t care about the follow-ups because I rarely read those. Not to be outdone, Marvel Comics announced a price reduction on all new titles launching in January 2011.

Awesome! Uh... wait.

How come only the new titles? I was one of the people who misread the announcement and thought “Sweet… these $3.99 titles are killing my wallet.” DC’s solicitations came out for January and there isn’t a single ongoing that costs more than $2.99.

Marvel’s solicitations: Fifteen ongoing titles with a $3.99 price tag (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #152, Avengers #9, New Avengers #8, Secret Avengers #9, Captain America #614, Thor #619, The Amazing Spider-Man #652 and #653, Incredible Hulks #620 and #621, Hulk #29, Wolverine #5, X-Men #7, Uncanny X-Force #4, and Uncanny X-Men #532). So not really Marvel's more obscure titles.

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I’d like to see Marvel take a similarly bold move as DC by bringing comics back down to a more affordable cover price.
