Russian 'X-Men: First Class' Trailer

Is another good trailer, da?

Da.

A Russian X-Men: First Class trailer appeared online today, and we get more of the goods in this second offering that has less frenetic cuts than the first. We get plenty more of Magneto’s story here and some glimpses of more of the mutants and their powers. I couldn’t be happier with the character design for Beast, who looks surprisingly true to his comic book counterpart.

X-Men: First Class hits theaters on June 3^rd.

Fanmade Trailers! God's Gift to Web Surfing

I’m not sure why, but if I see the words “fanmade trailer”, I’m in. The cheesier the better. Fanmade trailers are usually clumsily edited wish-fulfillment trailers for films that, due to budget constraints or storyline plausibility, would never see the light of day. I’ve assembled a few that run the gamut of terrible, bad, confusing, and classic.

I will say that these videos are full of heart and seemingly have taken hours and hours to produce. Nonetheless, there is cheese to be had here.

'Thor' Trailer: Shot-By-Shot

I think the new Thor trailer hit all the necessary marks. We see that it's a fish out of water story, a romance, there's humor, creepy bad guys, and, of course, some hammer-slammin' action. I loved the shot of Thor tossing Mjolnir at one of the ice giants and seeing his peacekeeper just hang there in mid-air before coming back to papa. Good stuff.

So let's break down some of the trailer's main shots:

New 'Thor' Trailer Debuts

Thor is readying to kick off the summer movie season, one filled with comic book adaptations galore. Today we have been treated to the second trailer for the film that offers a little more Thor and a little more Loki, which the first trailer seemed to lack.

It was also smart to include the scene in the diner, with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) throwing down his coffee mug in appreciation for a solid cup a’ joe and Darcy (Kat Dennings) taking a picture of the God of Thunder for her Facebook page. It seems like these scenes make the fanboys cringe, but the general public want a couple things from their blockbusters: 1) awesome special effects, 2) some laughs, and 3) a good story (okay this is debatable but it needed to be added).

Thor hits theaters on May 6^th.

'X-Men: First Class' Trailer: Shot-By-Shot

I was initially somewhat lukewarm to the idea of the X-Men: First Class movie mainly because it seemed as though Fox was rushing the film into theaters. After X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I was hoping for a little more care to be taken in bringing one of Marvel's biggest properties to life. Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) has also mentioned in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that he felt under the gun to deliver this film on time. Now that the first trailer is here I think we may have something good here.

Pretty damn good actually.

New 'DC Universe Online' Trailer Premieres

This week on the podcast I mentioned that I didn’t care for The Cape because the producers do not seem to know or love comic books. On the other hand, when I watch these trailers for DC Universe Online, I can tell the makers of this video game seem to have an affinity for the source material.

While nobody would ever describe me as a gamer, these trailers bring out the geek in me like nothing else. I love seeing my favorite characters walking and talking in an unabashedly sci-fi story, I love the character reveal about midway through, and because I do love comic books, I know he makes it out in the end. He always does.

'Captain America' Trailer Features First Glimpse of Red Skull

When the Green Lantern trailer was released a few months back I was totally excited about what I saw. I feel the same way about the new Captain America: The First Avenger trailer (maybe even more so). What I liked particularly about the former film's clip was our first glimpse of Mark Strong as GL's main baddie Sinestro. The Cap trailer features the equally cool first shot of Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull (Cap's arch nemesis).

I could not be more excited for the relase of Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22!

Super Bowl Trailer: 'Cowboys & Aliens'

This is a great way to start of Super Bowl Sunday! Universal and Dreamworks have decided to release the trailer for Cowboys & Aliens prior to airing it during the big game. Good for us!

'Thor' Trailer Debuts

The Thor trailer has premiered on Yahoo! Tonight and I am happy with much of what I see in terms of bringing the magical elements of the Thor comic books to the big screen, I still have one lingering fear that has hung with me since seeing the behind-the-scenes story on Entertainment Tonight earlier this year: the film may spend too much time on Midgard… err… Earth.

While this follows the original storyline of Thor—the God of Thunder stripped of his powers and banished to Earth by his father Odin—I’ve got my fingers crossed that most of the film is not Thor acclimating to life in New Mexico as he searches for a way back to Asgard. This is only a concern and not a complaint though. I have no evidence that Thor will take place primarily on Earth with little action actually taking place in Asgard.

I do like how faithful the film seems to the source material and I get the sense that director Kenneth Branagh has worked hard to maintain a serious tone for the film. Like the Green Lantern trailer before it, Thor appears to strongly embrace its sci-fi/fantasy roots.

The Second 'Green Hornet' Trailer Premieres

Last week was an enormous one for comic book movie trailers.  Tuesday saw our first peek at the entire Green Lantern teaser, followed Wednesday by the Cowboys & Aliens teaser. The second Green Hornet trailer premiered on Friday with more glimpses of the Green Hornet and Kato in action.

The Green Hornet is directed by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and written by Evan Goldberg (Superbad). The film is scheduled for release on January 14, 2011, and stars Seth Rogan, Cameron Diaz, Jay Chou, Tom Wilkinson and Christoph Waltz.

'Cowboys & Aliens' Trailer Debuts

And we thought we were only going to get a movie poster to whet our appetite for Cowboys & Aliens this week. Check out the very cool trailer for next summer’s high concept western/sci-fi flick starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Keith Carradine and Clancy Brown.

Cowboys & Aliens arrives in theaters July 29, 2011.

'Green Lantern' Trailer Debuts

I know not every one is sold on this. Me? I’m sold.

The Green Lantern trailer hit the web today after being teased on Entertainment Tonight last week and getting everyone stirring. And now we get to see all of the high flying adventure in all of its HD glory and I must say I am quite happy with the results.

Thank you technology for being able to realize so much of what we are looking for in the more fantastic comic book adaptations. While I’ve read some of the groaning about Ryan Reynolds being too lighthearted to play Hal Jordan, is there any disputing how serious the filmmakers appear to be taking the original source material?

There’s that very cool looking Kilowog that we saw last week. The complete trailer gives us our first glimpse at Tomar-Re (flying so smoothly) and a very cool looking Mark Strong as Sinestro.  It looks like we’ll be treated to some excellent action and some quality evil-doing by Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard looking very 70’s pornstar then very creepy). I was surprised at how much was squeezed into what is essentially a teaser.

'The Incredibles' Blu-Ray Trailer

We learned last week that the next Pixar release to get the Blu-Ray treatment would be The Incredibles.  Here's the official trailer narrated by none other than Writer/Director Brad Bird in the voice of Edna "E" Mode.  There are so many reasons to be excited about this new transfer, but just listen to that score by Michael Giacchino and tell me you aren't pumped for this release!

The Incredibles hits stores on Blu-Ray in Spring 2011.

'Avengers' #7 Trailer: Hulk Getting Ready to Smash

If you've been reading Hulk by Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman, you'd know that Captain Steve Rogers has recruited the Red Goliath (do they call him that?) to help him on a mission to quell a pretty nasty virus concocted by the Leader and M.O.D.O.K.  Naturally Hulk would be invited to give the Avengers a big strong hand... but I'll bet things don't start off as a match made in heaven.

Just take a look at the new trailer for Avengers #7 by Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita, Jr. (on sale November 17th).

Teaser Trailer: Paul

The teaser trailer for Paul has finally been released and things are looking pretty good. Paul is the story of two best friends who travel across the United States attending comic conventions and come across an alien named Paul. The film is directed by Greg Motolla (Superbad and Adventureland) and stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, (the voice of) Seth Rogan, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver and Kristen Wiig.

I'm up for any pairing of Pegg and Frost (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) who also share writing credits here. Paul hits theaters March 8, 2011.
