Last week I came across a series of videos for something called Italian Spiderman, a string of 16 mm episodes that have as much to do with Spider-Man as a Snickers bar. It’s a hybrid of cheap Italian films of the late 60’s/early 70’s and poor international interpretations of superheroes which are so dissimilar to the source material that they have little to fear of copyright infringement.
A fake trailer (above) for the movie was produced as part of a college film project by Director Dario Russo. After garnering an enormous fan following, a series of episodes with a very un-Spider-Man storyline followed in 2008.
I am definitely late to the Italian Spiderman bandwagon, but I wanted to share the trailer here for the uninitiated. There are ten episodes (the first one below), running about three to five minutes apiece, that can be found on YouTube.
