The New Avengers 100 Project: The Hero Initiative
The Hero Initiative is a charity that raises money to help aging comic creators who are in need of financial aid or medical expenses. Over the last three years the organization has recruited many of comicdom’s top artists to create 100 covers that feature characters from the selected book. In the past, artists have drawn their versions of Ultimate Spider-Man, The Hulk, and Wolverine: Weapon X. The current project is The New Avengers 100 Project. The sale of these covers has played a part in the $200,000 the Hero Initiative has so far been able to raise.
I love looking at the interpretations of characters or teams these artists may otherwise never get an opportunity to draw professionally. (Above) Whilce Portacio’s take on the characters is fantastic; as are David Nakayama’s (below left) and Tim Sale’s (below right).
