Superman Movie Tidbits

Director Zack Snyder may be prepared to direct the next Superman movie, but I feel a little sorry for the guy. Even after bringing The Watchmen to the screen, nothing could prepare him for deluge of questions he would inevitably be asked about this movie:

Who’s gonna wear the tights? Who’s the Man of Steel gonna fight? What’s the story gonna be?

On Friday Snyder told the following to the French website FilmsActu.com:
"As I have already explained, the film will focus on early days of Superman, so there will be no links with other films," said Snyder. "This is not a remake then. Similarly, although I still can not talk about the script, I can assure you that this new Superman will not be based on a comic book in particular."

I’m glad the movie is going to be it’s own thing. Superman Returns was weighed down—intentionally—by the baggage of the Richard Donner film.

According to the UK’s News of the World, Snyder claimed that he will consider Brandon Routh for the role of Superman after learning there was a passionate online campaign to bring back Routh to don the cape again. I’ll take this with a grain of salt. My personal feeling is that fanboys can be a fickle bunch. The second they see another actor in the costume, they won’t care a hill of beans about Routh.  Fans have been similarly passionate about Edward Norton being replaced by Ruffalo as Bruce Banner in The Avengers. Trust me. When the trailer finally hits, everyone is going to be so amped and wouldn’t care if Ang Lee was in the role.
