Four pages in and I am sold on the new Animal Man series by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman. The author, who is following in the big boots of Grant Morrison, has described the book as both a horror story and a book about family, though it is set squarely within the superhero universe.
Foreman’s pages are just as dynamic as DC promised during the course of their retailer road shows. Especially the second page as Buddy is trying to determine which animal will protect him from the gunman’s bullets. On the following page, Buddy has channeled the powers of several animals to take down his aggressor, but adds one more: “And the bark of a dog. That one always freaks them out.”
I’m going to probably keep saying this until the books are finally released, but it’s DC’s Dark and The Edge titles that have me pumped for their September relaunch.
