The Locke Family is Complete, Jesse McCartney Cast in 'Locke & Key'

I’m new to the world of Locke & Key, but that hasn’t kept me from instantly embracing one of the coolest and most inventive books in years (see my review of the first trade—I finished the second amazing trade last weekend). The book is being developed into a new series for Fox and singer/actor Jesse McCartney is the final member of the Locke children to be cast.

McCartney, who is currently voicing Robin in Young Justice, will play troubled son Tyler Locke. The actor joins Miranda Otto (Nina), Sarah Bolger (Kinsey), Skylar Gaertner (Bode), and Nick Stahl (Duncan).

More 'Captain America' Pics Hit the Web

Comic Book Movie got their hands on more scans of the Captain America: The First Avenger Empire Magazine article. The most pleasing one for fanboys is probably another pic of Cap in costume. There’s also our first shot of Tommy Lee Jones (as Colonel Chester Phillips) as well as a bulked up Chris Evans taking out some aggression on Richard Armitage (as Heinz Kruger).

Maria Hill or Sharon Carter, Who Will Be (Side) Kickin' it With Nick Fury?

Baccarin certainly has an uncanny resemblance to Marvel's Maria Hill.
Behind every great hero, there’s a great sidekick. And Nick Fury is need of some assistance as he travels around the Marvel Universe setting up deals to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Samuel L. Jackson, who plays the famed one-eyed, double-barreled, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., announced on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week that he would be screen testing a handful of women for the role of sidekick this week (see interview after the jump). Who said sidekick is remains a mystery, but there are a couple of likely candidates.

Young Justice Clip

New episodes of Young Justice air this Friday at 7pm on the CN.

PS: I hate Superboy's t-shirt look in the comics. But here, it looks great. Go figure.

'The Cape' Inspires SNL Parody

According to TV Guide, NBC has reduced it initial order of 13 episodes of The Cape to 10. I am hopeful that this is the end of the original comic-book inspired shows so that we can begin getting more television adaptations of quality properties (Powers, Locke & Key, Hulk, etc.). I was not a fan of the first episode of The Cape; it felt like a series created by people who had a vague idea of what comic books are.

Luckily, shortly after the show's premiere, SNL produced the following digital short that parodied the struggling series. Enjoy!

Sebastian Stan's First Pic as Bucky Barnes

I could not be more psyched for the slate of comic book movies set for release this summer. At the top of the list something of a tie between Captain America: The First Avenger and Green Lantern. With each picture that is released from the Cap film, I get the sense that the tone of this movie is going to be spot on.

Hero Complex scored an interview with director Joe Johnston who discussed the casting of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (above). I thought the most telling thing about the interview was how the couple of times Johnston pointed out the "dark" quality Stan brings to the role. It was not until Bucky reappeared as the Winter Soldier in the pages of Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America, that we got an inkling of 'ol Bucky's darkness.

I would gather that the idea is, if Captain America is a hit, a follow-up would feature Bucky's return as the antagonist for a future film. This is a fantastic idea because it's a way to tie Cap's past with his new present in an exceptionally dramatic way.

We're still a few months away before Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters (July 22), but the first teaser will run during this weekend's Super Bowl.

'Time Masters' Chalks it Up to 'Flashpoint'

Just for the sake of playing fair, I'm going to say (though not enthusiastically)...

Spoiler Alert.

But I don't consider this a real spoiler per se. This is more of an "Ohhhh... neat" moment found in the pages of Time Masters: Vanishing Point #6. The final page to be exact.

Lois Lane...you are so Wilde

The casting for Lois Lane appears to be the next priority for Zack Synder's new super flick.

A bunch of names are being tossed around...but the one that is raising my eye brows is Olivia Wilde.

You can find the story at sites like Movie Phone and Latino Review

Hot Damn that would be a good looking cast.

Pray to RAO Cape Town Commuters...

PS: I once wrote about how I wanted Ms. Wilde to be cast as Wonder Woman or Ms. Marvel.

Kelley's 'Wonder Woman' Script Reviewed by Bleeding Cool

Bleeding Cool has gotten their bloody hands on what they claim to be David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman script. As you may recall, NBC purchased the pilot for the 2011/2012 season after Kelley was initially unable to sell the pilot to the major networks.

From the sounds of things, there are elements that ring true to the comic books, but enough to make fans scratch their heads in befuddlement. Of course it’s not fair to judge a script by its spoilers, so click here to read for yourself (for the most part, it is spoiler free).

The villain in the series is Veronica Cale, a character introduced during Greg Rucka’s 2003 run on Wonder Woman. In the comics Cale is unimpressed with Diana’s mission of do-gooding and quest for peace as these are easily achievable goals someone of Wonder Woman’s background. As previously reported, the lasso and the bracelets are also a part of the story, which should make fans happy.

There is no doubt in my mind that Wonder Woman cannot be adapted in a television series without a fair amount of retooling. That is fine. From what Bleeding Cool has offered up, I’m not certain that the material is being handled with care.

Marvel Asks: Who are the Mystery Men?

Marvel teased a new summer release called Mystery Men today with the tagline “Who are the Mystery Men?” They are likely not the heroes of the Dark Horse comic and 1999 Ben Stiller film adaptation of the same name.

There has been speculation that they are a team of obscure—really obscure—heroes featured in Daring Mystery Comics (below) from pre-Marvel publisher Timely Comics. I assume, and my fingers are crossed, that the book is a period piece featuring little-known characters such as the Thunderer, Citizen V, the Fin, Silver Scorpion and Captain Daring. I mean… CAPTAIN DARING!

Bring on the mad scientists, marauding robots, fedora-wearing gangsters, and damsels in distress! Mystery Men is scheduled for release this June. Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine!

'Justice League' #50 Gets the Hero Treatment

If you are a lover of comic book art, as I am, then you may really love when it can be used for good, as it has been done with The Hero Initiative.

The Hero Initiative is a charity that comes to the assistance of comic book creators who are in need of financial and medical assistance. In the past, Marvel Comics has donated artwork to Hero Initiative’s 100 Cover projects in which some of the most talented artists in comics produce a comic book cover for a specific issue and the results are usually pretty spectacular—and generous to say the least.

Remender Presents Exciting New Spin on Former Spidey Nemesis

Like a song that has been overplayed, I have had a strong aversion to Venom for years. So it was with a great deal of surprise that I have found myself in anticipation of the new Rick Remender Venom title this March.

Remender and Marvel Senior Editor Steve Wacker had one of Marvel’s “Next Big Thing” press conferences last week to discuss the new ongoing and describe how this book is really set apart from what we have seen from the character in previous iterations, while still remaining true to fans of the symbiote.

The set-up is that the armed forces have found a way for Venom symbiote to be worn by a host for a series of days and can be removed before it takes over. The lucky guy who decides to wear the alien will go on Black Ops missions to prevent all hell from breaking loose.

Hulk is Ready for His Own Rogue's Gallery

Jeff Parker has his work cut out for him! Marvel teased their Point-One Initiative Hulk 30.1 which promises a new Rogue’s gallery for the Red Hulk. So far the new Hulk’s been sparring with his green counterparts main baddies, the Leader and M.O.D.O.K.

I sometimes wonder if one of a writer’s greatest challenges is trying to create lasting bad guys for a character that has been around for decades. While Red Hulk has not been on the scene too long, he’s upset enough people to start making some enemies.

There’s an axiom that our heroes are only as good as his villains. Take Batman, Spider-Man, the Flash—month in and month out we know there’s the possibility for good stories because any number of great villains can come out of the woodwork to spread some badness.

It will be interesting to see what Parker and artist Gabriel Hardman come up with when Hulk 30.1 is released this March!

RIDDLE ME THIS?

Who could Joseph Gordon-Levitt be playing in the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises?

Well, we will all find out soon enough.

Per Deadline, the 30 year old actor will be joining the cast this spring.

So what do we think Cape Town Commuters???

Will he be friend of foe???

It's almost like a riddle.

Photoshoppery: A Comic Book Movie Tradition

Congratulations Henry Cavill on your new role as the Man of Steel! Welcome to that small community of actors who eventually go on to play famous comic book heroes. You my friend are about to play the biggest one of them all. This is going to mean lots of press, toys with your likeness, the possibility of being a household name, and sadly it means that your image will be photoshopped to death until we get official pictures of you in costume. Zack Snyder's Superman film is not scheduled for release for almost two years. That gives fanboys and fangirls equipped with everything from Microsoft Paint to Photoshop a lot of time to play with your image.

Superhero Actor Photoshopping (or SAP-ing) is a time honored tradition that happens even before leads are cast in a picture. Many exuberant fans feel it is their duty to help the casting process along by simply removing the head of an actor from a photo they found online and placing atop the image of a superhero's (almost-to-scale) body. The result is usually... it's really something.
