Will Red See Any Green?

RED (Retired Extremely Dangerous) hits theaters today.  This is the adaptation of Warren Ellis's 2003 comic book of the same name and stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, and Hellen Mirren.  The film is directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan and The Time Traveler's Wife) and has been adapted by Jon and Erich Hoeber (Whiteout).

The film is currently garnering a "Fresh" of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes.  However, the top critics have a cumulative score of 59% (just below the coveted 60% on the Tomatometer).

Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun Times): "RED is neither a good movie nor a bad one. It features actors we like doing things we wish were more interesting."

Robert Wilonsky (Village Voice): "Classiest. Comic. Book. Movie. Ever."

I happen to think the trailer looks fantastic.  I'd guess that if this movie has problems, it could be due to the lack of pedigree behind the screen (as compared to the cast). Look here for my own take on the movie this weekend.
