'Moon Knight' Preview

I’ve always felt that, for a writer, the next best thing to getting to work on a creator-owned title is to work on lesser known properties. If a writer is assigned Superman, Spider-Man or any of the other household names, he is obliged to find that character’s distinguishable voice while staying well within the lines.
With the obscure characters that haven’t had a book in years, and possibly never a lengthy successful ongoing, writers have a more open canvass that isn’t going to meet with fanboy criticism when the character is taken to unexpected places.

This is what excites me about Brian Michael Bendis’ upcoming run on Moon Knight where I will assume the writer will do whatever he damn well pleases with the character—and I’m fine with this. Moon Knight is one of those properties that has been around for almost four decades and hasn’t had a successful run yet. Writers clearly enjoy playing with the character since he has continued to pop up all over the Marvel U for several years.

It’ll be interesting to see what new things Bendis can bring to the Mark Spector when Moon Knight launches in May with frequent collaborator Alex Maleev.

Official Press Release

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Moon Knight #1, from the Eisner Award-winning creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev! Moon Knight heads to Los Angeles as a one-man Avengers team to dissolve a criminal syndicate tearing the City of Angels apart. Except there will be no warm welcome, because once word gets out about Marc Spector’s arrival, the mastermind behind LA’s crime circuit will stop at nothing to make an example of any Avengers who cross him.  Plagued by incurable schizophrenia, can Moon Knight hold it together to clear out a city riddled with villains?  This May, two of comics’ biggest talents reunite to redraw, and redefine one of Marvel’s Big Shots, only in Moon Knight #1!
