Reign of Doomsday: Did something actually happen?

If you've been listening to the Podcast or read our posts....you would know that the return of the Doomsday has been anything but super.

Since the character first showed up in a Steel one-shot, the monster famously known for killing Superman, has been hunting down anyone wearing an S on their chest.

This is leading up to a bigger story that will be housed in Action Comics. But darn it, these lead up stories suck.

Yes... I said it. THEY SUCK.

However, yesterday the forth part of Reign of Doomsday came out, in the pages of a Superman/Batman Annual.

In this story Supergirl, Batman, and The Cyborg Superman are stuck in the JLA watch tower with Doomsday.

The Monster’s only intent is The Cyborg Superman, who in the past few years has been looking for a way to end his life.

It would be easy for the Cyborg Superman to use this opportunity to finally die…a bloody death at the hands of Doomsday

But instead this is seen as a chance to outdo Superman.  The Cyborg Superman goes in full force in an effort to do what Superman could not. Kill Doomsday.

It was actually a fun story. Writer James Robinson did what the other books have failed to do.

Give us a story…

Here Supergirl gets over her grief of New Krypton which moves her arc along (as seen in the JLA) and steps up to the challenge to save Batman from Doomsday.

We also get to see an internal battle from the Cyborg Superman who wants to prove to himself that he can be better than the World’s Greatest Hero.

And the story of Doomsday is pushed forward when we learn the true extent of the monsters power to adapt to an opponent …this is seen after the Cyborg Superman kills Doomsday.

  Spoilers.......

Yup…Doomsday is now a powerful cyborg. Or at least for now he is. In the last few stories Doomsday has also adapted the energy powers of the Eradicator and been able to change his body into a hard metal shell after Steel tried to stop the beast with nanonites.

We also learn that Doomsday is taking his prey somewhere near the remains of New Krypton.

I couldn’t say all is forgiven with these Doomsday’s stories but at least this issue had a point.
