Timm Announces 'Justice League: Doom'

According to Superman Homepage, while at Wonder Con this weekend, Bruce Timm announced that DC Universe next animated venture would be titled Justice League: Doom.

The film, says Timm, is a loose adaptation of Mark Waid’s classic “Tower of Babel” storyline from the pages of JLA #43 through #46. Waid had what many would have thought to be the unenviable task of following Grant Morrison after departing the title Morrison had relaunched with Howard Porter back in 1997. However, with “Tower of Babel”, Waid told a powerful story which had ramifications that were felt for a long time afterward.

In the story, one of Batman’s greatest villains—Ra’s Al Ghul—takes down each of the members of the  JLA. And we’re not talking Vibe and Gypsy. These were the big guns: Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, Flash, and Plastic Man. And where could Ra’s get the edge of the planet’s greatest heroes? He stole the plans that Batman himself had devised should he ever have to take down his comrades. It was so simple, yet so wonderfully clever. The important thing is that you knew as a reader that, yes, Batman would do something like this. The act divides the team and defines Batman’s relationship with the superhero community for a long time to come.

If you’ve never read JLA: Tower of Babel, the book could not come with higher recommendation.
