Legendary Pictures Creates Comic Book Imprint
There’s a new imprint in town and its name is...wait for it: Legendary. Make that Legendary Comics, a comic line launched by Legendary Pictures, the production company that has co-financed Superman Returns, 300, and The Dark Knight with Warner Bros.
Bob Shreck has been named the company’s editor-in-chief. Shreck is the founder of Oni Press, has worked as an editor at Dark Horse and IDW, and spent almost a decade at DC editing Batman, Green Arrow and the company’s All Star titles.
The plan is to have four to six original titles produced in 2011, the first coming in the first half of the year. After publication the goal will be to guide these original properties to either the large or small screen.
There is no word yet as to what types of stories they are after or the talent that is being sought after to bring original works to the upstart. However, Legendary Pictures official press release includes supportive quotes from Neil Gaiman (Sandman), Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns) and Max Brooks (World War Z).
Comics published by Legendary Comics will be released in standard print as well as digital formats.
