It's true! The character of Mary Jane Watson will not appear in Director Marc Webb's new Spider-Man reboot according to The Wrap. Gwen Stacy is going to have some love-triangle-free time to spend with Peter Parker (at least in the first film).
When word of the movie was announced, there was talk of two female leads: Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone) and Mary Jane. There hasn't been much talk about the casting of Mary Jane recently and now it's clear why.
This is probably the right way to go because we've had three films with Peter and Mary Jane pining for one another. If Gwen and Mary Jane were featured, it could distract from the fact that Gwen was originally Peter's true love.
