Let's Try Again Bub: Aronofsky to Direct 'The Wolverine'

It is pretty official—HitFix has confirmed that Darren Aronofsy (Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler) is going to direct the sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film will be based on the classic 1982 mini-series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller and will be titled The Wolverine. So we are already off to positive start with the dropping of the cumbersome X-Men Origins from the title. Or course having Aronofsky and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) on board is the true step in the right direction for this franchise.

Aronofsky describes the film as a “one-off” story and that it would not be considered a sequel in the traditional sense. Again, good news. The first film did a disservice to a character that deserves a better story and film.

The Wolverine does not have a release date yet (probably the end of 2011 or Summer 2012).
