'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' Begins Filming
Filming has begun in Romania this week on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the follow-up to 2007’s Ghost Rider.
The original film was written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil), however the new film is helmed by directing team Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank and Gamer) and written by Scott M. Gimple (FlashForward) from a story by David Goyer (Batman Begins).
According to Screen Rant the film has had its budget reduced almost by half in order to get greenlit (apparently Nicholas Cage took significant pay cut to return for the sequel). The internet was abuzz with a false story that Cage would also be playing the villain as a result of an erroneous tweet.
We’ll have to wait to see if the filmmakers can get over some of the original’s problems with this second outing. For me, Ghost Rider is one of those properties that doesn’t have a lot of appeal to mass audiences or a lot of story to tell in this medium. However, the character absolutely has a passionate fan base, but I question whether or not they were alienated by the lackluster first film.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is scheduled for a February 17, 2012 release.
