Wizard World Anaheim: The Fine Folks We Met

If you follow our burgeoning little site (and we certainly hope you do), then you already know Jerry and I spent the weekend at the Wizard Anaheim Comic Convention to introduce the public to our exciting new podcast and wonderful blogging.

In addition to speaking tons of nice folks and telling them about our mission to provide them with a fun and informative podcast, we met some truly fantastic people that we wanted to mention here. Some are fellow podcasters and others are creators whose work piqued our interest something fierce.

Well, if you listen to the show (and we certainly hope you do), you already know that we spent the weekend sitting to the fine folks from Comic Impact. I’m glad to say here that I’m listening to their very funny review show—which features an excellent review of last week’s Super Dinosaur #1. Who would have expected so many expletives could be used to describe an all ages book? Click here to subscribe to their podcast on iTunes and here to jump to their site. Jerry and I cannot wait for the eventual Comic Impact and Cape Town Community Team-Up.

Okay, we were thrilled to meet the guys from Schmoes Know who confirmed the rumors—Thor is going to kick ass when it hits theaters this week. Their goal is to protect your money from being spent of bad movies with their funny review site and a cool YouTube Channel. Check ‘em out!

I finally got to meet one of my favorite bloggers: Matt Todd (aka Comic Panelist). Matt and I got to speak at great length about what we're loving and what we're not loving in the world of comic books, as well as the trials and tribulations of blogging. Matt also shared his uh-mazing sketch book. Wow did he have some nice sketches from some top, top talent. It was also nice to finally speak to somebody who had the same feelings for Super Dinosaur!

We chatted several times over the course of the weekend with Mark from VideoGamesMuseum.com, whose company offers a truly awesome service: they promote retro gaming, collecting, and game preservation techniques as well as provide top-quality tools, games, systems, and accessories to our fellow retro gamers worldwide. Check out Mark’s informative YouTube channel!

Wolverine by Jeff Stokely
Jerry received an amazing piece of artwork by illustrator Jeff Stokely, whose sketch of Invincible had our hearts pounding. This guy is really an amazing artist! Jeff followed up that sketch with another amazing drawing of Omni Man. Wow, was this a fantastic illustration. We'll post that picture shortly. For now click here to see some of Jeff's fantastic work!

Okay, so sometimes magicians can be, well, magician-y. If you don't like magicians, I know you know what I mean. So we met a guy named Jon Armstrong who's telling us about this comic book of his that shows you how to perform magic tricks while still telling a story. He gave us an example using his iPad and it was pretty freaking cool. I figured he was just the writer, but he's actually a magicianbut he didn't at all use that fast, obnoxious magician affectation.

We got a kick out of speaking with Eric Cajiuat (better known as Jedi Elvis). He is an Elvis Tribute Artist who specializes in Elvis songs sung with Star Wars-themed parody lyrics. If you're wondering what something like that must be like, wonder no more.

The ever expanding world of Star Trek deserves a site to keep you updated with all things Trek: news, product reviews, exclusive interviews, convention reports and much more are all on topic at this sharp site. The folks at TrekNews.net promise daily content on everything that you must know to stay on top of this rich universe.

We met dozens of other artists, writers, podcasters and bloggers over the past weekend whose work in the world of comics simply amazed us!
