The C2E2 DC Nation panel did not offer up a ton of information, but there is some news to share. The panel included Dan DiDio DC Comics co-publisher, Bob Wayne senior vice-president of sales, Paul Cornell (Action Comics), Scott Snyder (Detective Comics), Bill Willingham (Fables), and Gail Simone (Secret Six).
The panel remained pretty tight-lipped about Flashpoint. DiDio said "We've actually canceled a bunch of books that were on the cusp." This was done to ensure that fans could concentrate on purchasing the supporting crossovers, which he likened to one big Elseworlds event. Elseworlds, of course, being the other the line of DC character re-imagining stories such as Kingdom Come, The Nail, or Superman: Red Sun.
As has been confirmed by Flashpoint writer Geoff Johns, DiDio said that readers do not have to buy all of the supporting Flashpoint titles to follow the main story. When a fan suggested he would pick up the series, DiDio said “Our job is to make as many comics as fans will buy."
“We're trying to make this event as exciting as possible, and to have you enjoy them as much as you want,” DiDio continued. He explained that it would have been impossible to establish the Flashpoint world in a single story.
DiDio discussed the across-the-board reduction of comics prices to $2.99 and said that they will try to maintain this price point “as long as possible.” With the price drop also came the letters page which DiDio admitted to at first being against—however "We've gotten more letters than we've ever imagined,” said DiDio, “and the comments have just been spectacular."
The panel seemed fairly coy in their answering of fan questions. Probably the most frightening thing that came out of the panel were the words “I don’t know” by Paul Cornell. The question posed was whether or not Paul Cornell would continue with Action Comics after the “Reign of Doomsday” storyline.
