C2E2: Cup 'o Joe Panel

The Cup ‘o Joe panel at C2E2 promised some big announcements and we got them that is for certain. Greg Rucka and Marco Checcetto on The Punisher. Mark Waid with Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin on Daredevil. And somewhat out of left field, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley announced Brilliant, a new creator-owned title for Marvel’s Icon imprint.

The panel featured Joe Quesada, Brian Michael Bendis, Jeph Loeb, Mark Waid, C.B. Cebulski and Matt Fraction.

Bendis confirmed that he has no plans to use the Runaways in his new Moon Knight series. He mentioned that he would play up the character’s multiple personalities, specifically featuring Moon Knight’s versions of Captain America, Wolverine, and Spider-Man.
Marcos Martin's Daredevil.
Loeb asked the crowd if they would like to see a Runaways television series—remember that the proposed Runaways film might not indeed be set for 2013? That’s fine by me. I believe Runaways, with its large ensemble cast, would be a perfect fit for television.

Loeb confirmed the creative team on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series: Paul Dini, Joe Kelly, Joe Casey, Duncan Rouleau, Steven Seagle and Bendis. Loeb also added that superstar artists Stuart Immonen, Ed McGuinness, Paolo Rivera, and Humberto Ramos gave their feedback on the design for the new Disney XD series. Loeb also promised that there would be more animation projects to talk about next year.

Loeb also confirmed that Tim Sale is currently hard at work on Captain America: White, but that the series won’t be solicited until the artist has completed work on the mini.

A fan asked about the fate of the Ultimate Universe. "I can tell you wholeheartedly, that what's going to happen this year, starting with Ultimate Spider-Man #156, through the calendar year, you will find one whopper after the next, one big ultimate shocker after the next," said Bendis.

Quesada added, "We are able to do things with the Ultimate Universe that is tough to do with the regular Marvel Universe.” Quesada said, “I'm bursting to tell you, but I can't."

The panel concluded with a screening of the first episode (of four) of Thor/Loki: Blood Brothers.
