The Avengers is readying to assemble its big bad self around the country. The latest city to get its shot to be shot in the 2012 blockbuster is Cleveland. Drew Carey must be so happy.
Spinoff is reporting that after tax-incentive deals fell through in Michigan, Director Joss Whedon and company got the deal they were looking for in Ohio. Filming is set to begin in New Mexico this April at Albuquerque Studios, followed by shoots in Cleveland and New York City (yay Big Apple).
Spoiler Alert (seriously consider not reading on):
A couple of other rumors have circulated this week about a teaser trailer for The Avengers that had already been filmed so that it may be attached to Thor and/or Captain America: The First Avenger when those films are released this summer. Apparently the teaser involves Loki, who has long been rumored to play a part in the film. The rumor also suggests that Loki (featured in Thor) will use the Cosmic Cube (featured in Captain America) to bring the Skrulls to earth.
Robert Downey Jr. said last summer that this film was going to be ambitious. If there is any truth to the rumor—and this would not be the first time we heard about the Skrulls—then the Iron Man actor wasn’t kidding. All I can say, if this is the direction they go with the film, it sounds pretty cool, but the film had better clock in at two and a half hours—because that is a lot of story to tell!
The Avengers is scheduled for release on May 4, 2012.
