Fanmade Trailers! God's Gift to Web Surfing

I’m not sure why, but if I see the words “fanmade trailer”, I’m in. The cheesier the better. Fanmade trailers are usually clumsily edited wish-fulfillment trailers for films that, due to budget constraints or storyline plausibility, would never see the light of day. I’ve assembled a few that run the gamut of terrible, bad, confusing, and classic.

I will say that these videos are full of heart and seemingly have taken hours and hours to produce. Nonetheless, there is cheese to be had here.

The Avengers

Talk about your classic line-up: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, Mr. Fantastic, Wolverine and the Silver Surfer! Gosh, it feels like it’s straight out of the comic books! And boy do they have their work cut out for them when Magneto, the Abomination, Dr. Doom, Sabretooth, Galactus and the Green Goblin team-up to hatch some nefarious plot to… well, I’m not sure, but it’s probably bad news. Of all the videos here, this one feels the truest to the stories I grew up on.

Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi seemed like he wanted to eventually bring the Lizard to the big screen, but I hope it would have turned out better than this. The maker of this popular video decided to go old-school/new-school (as in Spider-Man 3) by featuring a storyline in which the Lizard and Carnage are both on hand to cause some pretty major problems for ‘ol web head. Faster than you can say PS3—Spidey has hundreds of Lizard creatures on the loose in New York to contend with. The big question is who messed up Mary Jane so bad? Carnage? Dr. Connors’ scaly alter-ego? Or does emo-Peter return to finish what he started in the last installment?

The Justice League

I’m not sure what the story is here, but damn it—that music works, doesn’t it? It’s so timeless. Okay, this is really a mess because too much is happening and everything is cut so fast (for the most part) that you can barely discern what is happening. Seriously, I wonder why the clip creator went with the Superfriends theme? If they do make a Justice League film I hope they don’t include a Ted Knight voice-over.

X-Men 4

Apparently, some pretty hardcore stuff was going to go down in X-Men 4 when major baddie Apocalypse shows up to cause problemos for the mutants and humanity. I think my favorite part of the video is towards the end, when the editor lists all of the characters and Rogue’s name comes up—you just see a clip of someone flying off really fast. Ahhh, yes. The X-films definitely missed an opportunity to do more fun things with Rogue. I also liked the addition of Lady Deathstrike towards the end. After the decimation, destruction, and hammering Earth takes in this video, fisticuffs with this villain seems like a walk in the park.

Batman 4

This one just doesn’t make any sense at all!

The Avengers (Premakes)

I’ve posted this one before. It is perhaps the greatest fanmade trailer I have ever seen. It also features every major character in the Marvel U as Earth’s Mightiest heroes face off against the Skrulls.
